Comments: Are there any updates on the 35th year reunion for 74 class. please e-mail me if any, thanks. i noticed in reading some of the comments people have made they mentioned their favorite teachers. at french i had three, zulma smith(spanish),mrs. powers(history) and mrs. klein (algebra 1). I also have to be honest and say my real true and favorite teachers were actually my mother and father. my mother josephine morgan who taught seventh grade english at Austin Junior High and my father who taught at roy h. guess elementary, math, science and p.e.. at eugene field elementary there are several, mrs. williams,1stgr.,mrs. mccroskey,2ndgr.,mrs.brackin,3rd,mrs.warren,4th,mrs dement, 5th,mrs yates,5th,mrs jordan,6th and coach mike martin. two of the greatest principals ever, Mr. Paul Carlisle and Mr. Malcolm Rector. trust me when i say that we were blessed beyond degree to have the best talented and gifted teachers God placed on this planet. at austin jr. high my favorite teachers were mrs. judy barnett, mrs.manada smith,mrs. lois debney, mrs.mary thompson,miss brenda jones/mrs.whitlock,choir. The memories of all these people are countless. thanks again for the wonderful job that is being done on this website. randy!

Here is a quick chronology of what I have been up to these past 35 years or so since graduating H.S. 1974-1976 US Marine Corp band. 1976-1980 spent years in Denton working to get a music degree at NTSU (now UNT), finally had to bail and get a real job 1980-present been living here in Austin ever since, what a great town! Am now on my third marriage for 6 years now, wow, that is a record. Fond memories of French HS life in the 70's Take Care all!

Comments: I carry such fond memories of our time together at FHS! Keepin' it weird in Austin after living in Albuquerque, Orlando and Miami. Currently working as a teacher in middle school supporting students under the Autism Spectrum as well as Special Ed. Dept. Chair. Have enjoyed work experiences out of the education field as an Aerobics instructor, recruiter for an employment agency and a Jenny Craig counselor. Married 18 years to a "tried and true" Texan (Houstonian), Michael, who continues to provide me with love, support and his own brand of humor. He continues to work hard as a multi-family Project Manager and avid fisherman. I love hearing from or meeting up with my FHS buddies...it always takes me to a "happy place". I continue to count my blessings and strive to lead a balanced life in a very unbalanced world. See you at the next reunion!

Comments: Just ran across this site. Really impressive and a great way to get people connected.(updated: April 2011) And the journey continues. During FHS I was pretty naive and sort of lost about what to do with myself. Spent most of my FHS days on a motorcycle. I miss motocross and Golden Triangle Dragstrip. After French, tried Lamar but wasn't ready, so I hitchhiked up to Virginia, down the Atlantic Coast & back to TX. Then the Marines took me to East Coast & overseas. Married now for 34 years. Great wife, (Robin Brown - Forest Park, 74), 3 kids, 1 stayed in Boston since Harvard (crazy yank). We've lived all over; Austin, Corsicana, Ft.Worth, Albuqurque, North Carolina, and Waco (4 times now). Work as a Systems Engineer on government ISR (Intelligence) platforms and have been in aviation for most of 30 years. Sometimes hard to picture me and intelligence. Managed to do fairly well in spite of myself. Sometimes you get lucky. Me - I'm just waiting to see where God puts me next!

Comments: Hi people. I am a little lost here, as I was in High School a lot. I remember a lot of the names but shortly after my unfortunate arrest, I was sent to the Gatesville State Reform School and that kind of made my grade change somehow. I didn't graduate as I had to drop out of school in the tenth grade and go to work as times were tough and money was slim. So I recognize names from 72 through 74, I think I had classmates or at least friends in all three. I fit in there somewhere. I straightened out and became a firefighter/paramedic. I am married to a wonderful woman and we have no kids, but I have two from my first marriage and four great grandkids that are a lot of fun. I look forward to the reunions, as soon as I figure out which class I belonged to.

Comments: It's absolutely amazing how quickly time passes! I'm a semi-retired RN, and currently own a private care home for ladies with Alzheimers disease. My first client was Georgia Smith, our homaking teacher, who at 86 y/o and totally blind, is just as gracious as ever! She's been with me for five years, and spends much of the day sitting in her wheel chair planning lessons and "teaching students." She truly had a passion for her career, and every day talks about "getting ready for school." It's sad that our children never knew the kind of teachers we had.

Just wanted to say Hi to all my dear friends from FHS. I have a beautiful daughter, Julie (20) and a handsom son, Danny (22) My daughter just graduated from LIT for Respiratory Care. I'm so proud and my son is contenuing his higher education at Lamar in Beaumont. As for me, I'm divorced since 93 and took an early retirement from Southwestern Bell and loving every minute of it. I spend a lot of my time watching my sisters two sons play baseball. I go to the club every now and then. see yall around

I divorced Mark in 1996,made a huge mistake ,married someone else, regained my senses,divorced him,and now Mark and I are getting remarried in Sept.I work for a dentist in Beaumont as a dental hygienist--have been there for 15 years now. Comments: great website! What a labor of love! It's been really fun scrolling through all of the postings- a walk down memory lane. I haven't done a very good job of staying in touch. I married an overgrown Boy Scout (yes, Jane, I finally found a boy scout my age!) in '83 and we have 2 daughters- Kirsten (13) and Carrie (10). We have lived in Tyler, TX and in Hot Springs, AR and are now in the Sangre de Christo mountains of northern New Mexico. My husband, Mark, is on the national staff of the Boy Scouts of America and became the Director of Program of the Philmont Scout Ranch a year and a half ago. Philmont is sort of the national park of the Boy Scout organization- where all good scouts and scouters want their ashes scattered when they die. We LOVE it here! Imagine a mindset that thinks the humidity is HIGH at 35%! After growing up in Beaumont, it is fascinating to live in an area where people kill each other over water rights! (2000)I have lived in houston since graduating from LU. Went to South Texas College of Law and graduated in 1991. I basically forgot my way home and started my law practice in Houston although I practice in Beaumont as well. I have kept in contact with Ron McLain and Michael Minnick as well as a few others. I have made all the reunions so far and intend to keep going. I would love to hear from our classmates. I have a lovely wife, Linda, and two children, John III(4 1/2 years old) and Emily(3 months old).Life has been good to and God has truly blessed our family.

Since my last post here, I remarried a strong-willed Mormon girl from Maryland, had a beautiful daughter in 2002, and got divorced again a few months ago. My six year old daughter Trina is the center of my life. I'm currently self-employed creating webpages and doing computer repair/IT consulting. I've been living in Austin since 1976 and loving it ever since, although it is incredibly more crowded than when I move here (seems like a long time ago!). I am engaged to a wonderfull woman and hope to be a father soon (what a concept). I've sowed enough wild oats that I really appreciate settling down with a good woman and a sense of purpose. I've worked for Dell Computer for over three years now.....best job I've ever had! I often reflect on the education I received from the great teachers at French....Mrs. Yates, band director Mr. Bill ("sounds like a &#@*#% Chinese fire drill!") Driskell, Mrs. Lanasa, Mr. Ruby, and all the other fine teachers that really cared about us. We were very lucky! I am fortunate to be in touch with most of my old band buddies.....those were the best times I remember. As we all grow older and (hopefully) wiser, I pray that we live long and happy lives and always remember the spirit of youth and friendship that we all had at French High School! Live long and prosper!!!

After several years of looking for the perfect job I went to work as the office manager for the American Real Estate office in Lumberton. Wouldn't want to sell it but love working there.

UPDATED: April 2, 2000: I think this is a wonderful web site. I am retired from the State after 24 years and now own a Private Investigation Firm in Beaumont called the Shaffer Group on Calder Street. I am also running for Constable in Sour Lake. I am proud to have the French High School Alumni Assc at my office. I enjoy seeing all you BUFFALOS coming by and visiting. One of my Investigators is an older BUFFALO and my Sec. is the daughter of a BUFFALO. My favorite things in High School were dragging 11th, Footballs games and the parties afterwards, watching the Belles and hanging with my buddies. I have restored a 1972 Plymouth and am working on a 1967 V W bug which belonged to Tommy (Little Herb) Mulder class of 74. We used to do some wild things will driving this Bug. Tommy has had this Bug in his garage for many years and gave it to me to restore and keep. Ricky Williams used to hide in the front trunk to get into the Showtown Drive in free. I stay busy planning THE ALL FRENCH HIGH SCHOOL REUNION..!(The FHSAA BONFIRE) Like the cruise 11th street weekend, the bonfire-open house and spring picnic. Hope to see all ya'll there. I really miss all those wonderful teachers we had in HS. Hope we can get them out to our events. Stay strong BIG BILL!

Comments: Just letting everyone know that I was at French High 10/9 for Teacher Inservice...It is now called SMITH MIDDLE SCHOOL...Their masgot is the BUFFALO!!!...As I walked through the back door there stood "BIG BILL"...He sured looked good after all these years...Thier were two golden buffalo heads on either side of the stage in the aud...There was a large drawing of a buffalo in the office on the back wall...Beside each classroom door there was a picture of a buffalo with the room ### on it....The colors weren't ORANGE AND WHITE but "BIG BILL" IS BACK!!!!!We are planning our 25th Reunion for the summer of '99...E-MAIL FOR INFO...GO BUFFS!!!

Comments: This sight brings back so many memories! I quit school my senior year '74, got married and went back and graduated from French in '75. Biggest mistake of my life! I married someone from French '73. The only thing good out of my marriage, are my 5 wonderful kids. Kimberlee-19(in college), Jordan-15(10th), Kelsey-12(7th), Jake-8(3rd),& Joshua-5(pre-K). Married a jerk, starting over, and happier than I've ever been. My kids are doing things in their lives that I never succeeded in doing. Kimberlee is in college and has a great job at TXDOT. Jordan is in the top 5 of his class and on the basketball team. Kelsey just made cheerleader and is an all A' student. Jake is an all A student and loves sports. Joshua loves doing just about anything. I work at the school where my kids go, as an aide. We are very involved in our church and in our school. Dating no one at this time, may never. I have lived here in Hudson for 6 years now, but even before I moved I was still out of touch with my friends because of my marital situation. My life has changed a whole lot from the way it use to be. I also had other brothers and a sister that graduated from French. Gerry-graduated in '59, Berton-in I believe '62, Tim-in '67 & Deborah-in'71. I'm sure some of you know them. There were so many memories those four short years, the parties, beach, 11th street, golf world, purple trojan, lighthouse, skipping school and running wild. Boy, are my kids not like I was and would I ever allow them to do what I did, I DON'T THINK SO. Well, I don't feel old, don't look old and am still skinny. But I'm 43 and that's hard to believe. I think I have talked enough. I really have enjoyed this sight. Thank you for putting it here

Comments: I had to move to Austin, Texas in 1971 but I grew up in Beaumont and I didn't want to leave. I went to Eugene Field, All Saints Episcopal School, Stephen F. Austin, and then spent the first half of my 9th grade year at French. I was a member of the NJROTC and I played football for French. I haven't forgotten my friends that I grew up with. I even remember my first crush on Genevieve Ryder. I bowed to the Buffalo so I will always be a Buffalo at heart.
