The Calder Pig Stand

EVEN BIG BILL LOVED THE PIG STAND AND
WANTED TO HELP SAVE IT'S HISTORY

Oct. 2016 we lost the battle to save The Pig Stand.
The demolition of the Pig Stand has begun. I was able to save bits and pieces of the sea foam tiles. Just a small piece of cherished memories.

More and more of Beaumont's dining history is fading away! The sites of our first date, malts shared with old friends, the teenage hangouts for all the area schools.
The first Pig Stand - opened in 1941, possibly the nation's first drive-in eatery - in Dallas.
In Beaumont, the Calder Avenue site was the second one to open in the area, the first was at what now is Highland Avenue and Washington and a 3rd on 11th and College.

The now property owner of the Calder Pig Stand, Hamadullah Habib said he has no immediate plans to demolish the circa-1941 restaurant and is open to serious inquiries. "I have a lot of calls, but nobody's serious," he said in a phone interview!

It's sad to see the shape it is in several years ago
when I took the following photos through the windows. (2014)

SO SAD!
