Comments: After all these years, my life is not what I would have ever imagined. My husband is working at Ft Belvoir VA after returning from a year in Kuwait. He's just outside of DC and he got a townhouse in this little historical river town called Occoquan. He loves the area and I go up as time will allow. I'm in Plano and have two daughters, a son-in-law and a new granddaughter close by. Jerry sometimes comes down for holidays, important birthdays, etc., and I travel up to VA every other month or so. My youngest daughter and new son-in-law live in DC, so that helps initiate the traveling.

Comments: It was neat looking at this site. Thanks to the person(s) who did all the work. I saw a lot of things here that are getting kind of dim in my memory! Where did the years... and decades go? I played football (tackle) at French (boy, could we lose games!). I graduated with a B.S. form Lamar U. in 1973. I didn't marry until 1983. She graduated from Nederland High School in 1969. I married late, but I'm happy to say that this is a marriage that works! We'll be together until one of us dies... or until Jesus returns! We have one daughter. God bless you all!

After moving to Houston, I worked with Chip Carlisle (another FHS graduate) at Allied Bank of Texas. I left to go out of my own doing small business start ups. Retired from that after doing one for a cousin and staying way too long. Now I¢m working with my husband who is a lawyer doing criminal defense trial work. We are both active in our church, St. Luke¢s United Methodist. We do not have any children. I am looking forward to our upcoming 40th reunion in April (2009) and am so grateful for those energetic classmates who are organizing this event and to Maribeth Segree for this webpage.

Comments: After graduating from French I went to college at Stephen F. Austin . I graduated from there in 1972 with a BS degree in education. In January of 1973 I was in class with American Airlines and starting flying as a flight attendant in February. I lived in Dallas for about 4 years and then got married and moved to San Antonio. Moved back and got divorced. I moved to Grapevine in 1983. I tried the marriage thing again but it didn't work. I've lived in Grapevine for 25 years and I am still flying. I have such fond memories of high school. Oh, to be that young again. I didn't realize how good I had it. I have kept in touch with a few people from our class and we see each other occasionally. This website is fantastic. It is fun to see what some of our classmates are doing now. Thank you so much for all of your hard work. I hope to see some of you at our 40th...can you believe it!!

Referred by: I am the webmaster of the FHS website :-)
Comments: I've had several people e-mail me and ask me where I live now and they want to know a little more about "Gobet" and the founder of the FHS site
I left French in '67 and married Mike Harris - '66. We have 3 children (Michael, Sheri and Teri)and 8 grandchildren, and now in August 09, will have 9 great grand-children! *S* In '89 after a stroke and long illness I "retired" from Eckerds. When I'm not working on web pages, I do crafts, I paint, and love going to garage sales and playing on E-bay.
(Sept. 2000) After being away for almost 30 years I moved back to Beaumont in late April. I'll have to admit.. it's the last place I thought I'd ever be, but I really luv it here. It was like going home....Even though they (and for the life of me I don't know who THEY are) say you can't go "back". But a friend of mine said
"home is within each of us, And we really never leave home.. it leaves us".
How true.. we get too busy to stop and look back at the important things in life.
I hope that the FHS site takes us all BACK HOME!!
If only in our heart and memories.
(June 23, 2003) After 3 years of seperation my divorce was final today! A new beginning, an old ending. 37 years was a long time but we all move on and keep going. This web page and friends have been my source of strength. My heartfelt thanks to all of you. (( luv & hugs)) Maribeth Segree

Comments: wow! it's hard to believe there is someone else in the world with the words to the french school song. i thought i was alone. i remember: reading the beaumont journal cartoons on mary britt's front porch; being awakened by ray hale practicing his drums in the house next door; watching gary thatcher and mike byrd yelling at each other on the railroad tracks next to the water tower; playing my trumpet on my front porch without the dodds (from across the street) complaining; sitting through Fr. Perusini's 20 minute St. Pius services; almost running over mark bloodworth while learning to drive; and, watching nick gaines get mad when my brother-in-law (arthur vogel) beat him at chess. the teachers were great. jim boone taught us how to be good citizens in addition to being good musicians at bowie jr. high. i still remember class discussions in ms. callahan's class over the old man and the sea. mr rogers always seemed very stern when he stood outside his classroom between classes (many years later i found out he was a warm and caring person). ms brown was never happy with my writing skills and decided to keep me an additional year. she was probably correct in assuming that i would never win the pulitzer prize, but i went on to graduate from Lamar (76), UT (89), and UH (92). much of what the FHS English teachers (and Mr. Blum at Lamar)taught me must have stuck, i went on to write for many large magazines and the producers of a nationally syndicated television program.

We are blessed with two amazing children. A son and daughter, ages 13 and 10 respectively. You may notice that I started late having children. As they say, "better late then never" with a capital BETTER. We are so fortunate to have time to be their loyal soccer fans, enjoy their music, attend their school functions, fishing at the beach, and waterskiing on the lake. This has been my second attempt to post on this website. If I fail this time, I will have to ask my 13 year old to do it for me.

(Feb 2, 06)I have begun to update addresses for our class. Sandi Torrence is going to take on the job of organizing our 40th. reunion and I plan to help her. If your address has changed in the last few years, or if you want to volunteer to help out in some way, once the time is closer, please feel free to email me. I'll pass it on to Sandi. I realize we are still three years away from our reunion, but it's never too late to get in touch with some of your old French High friends. SOOOOO, take the time to call some old buddy and get up to date on what is happening to them now. While you're at it, get their current mailing address, phone number, and spouse's name. Let me know so we can contact them in time to come PARTY HEARTY!!!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I graduated from Lamar University with a BS in Sociology and Criminal Justice. I've been married for almost 19 years to Mike Lege' and we have an extremely intelligent, daughter named Bree Michelle. Where she got all this high level of intelligence confuses me. They must have switched babies in the hospital. We'll keep her though because she is such a joy. We lived in the West end of Beaumont and still see some of the "old" graudates from French High. Our 40 year class reunion is coming up, I need current addresses on everyone who graduated in 1969. This information may be e-mailed to me. Hope to hear from you soon
Comments: My best days were at FHS, singing with the folksingers. Mrs. Youngblood was just the best teacher FHS had. I never was in any of her classes, but she taught me a lot about being the woman I am today. I never became the singing star that I thought I would be, I am just a simple accountant. But, at lease FHS gave me a taste of stardom. I was overjoyed to see Rodney Barnett's comments. FHS folksingers were perhaps the best kid act Beaumont ever produced.
Comments: (updated: Jan. 2010) Just got the email about Terry O'Bannion's passing. I grew up with Terry. We both attended the Roy H Guess elementary and Austin Junior high back in the 60's. The elementary school was called Voth Rosedale Elementary then. Terry had an old surplus navy Jeep that we would take out and drive all over the back roads in Voth and tram road area. Neither one of us had a license. Anytime we saw a police car on the same road with us we would zip off the road and into a rice field to avoid being stopped. Can't tell you how many times we got that jeep stuck! LOL Great memories and one of the finiest guys I ever had the pleasure of knowing! Charles
Great site Maribeth. It's so good to be able to find people I went to school with and grew up with. Keep me advised on the next 11th Street Cruise. I am in Fort Worth but I wouldn't miss that for anything.
Comments: I graduated from FHS with the class of 1969. While at FHS I was active with the NJROTC, the NJROTC Drill Team, and the Art Club. Following graduation, I went to Lamar Univesrity and later enlisted in the US Army serving from 1972 to my retirement as a Sergeant-First-Class in 1992. I was the Army Soldier of the year in 1991. I married the former Patricia Rigler of Bridge City in 1972. We have 5 kids, Miriam, Aaron, Jacob, Hannah, and Sariah. We are also the proud grandparents of Christian-Daniel, Juliana,Chloe,Allegra, and Gabriel. In the militry I served several tours of duty in Europe and was stationed in Washington DC, Ft Gordon Ga, & Ft Bliss Tx. While in the military I graduated with a BS from the Univesity of Maryland and with a Masters of Science in Social Work from the University of Texas. Today I am a Medical Clinical Social Worker at Scott and White Memorial Hospital in Temple Texas. I am also active pursuing my hobby of the painting of Religous Icons, something I began in my FHS Art Classes. My Icons are located around the world in churches and private collections in Canada, Germany, Greece, Mexico, as well as the United States. I remember happily my years at FHS. It was where I began to get myself together and define where I was going as an adult. The many lessons I learned in NJROTC, the discipline of the NJROTC Drill Team, and Command position I had in the corps helped me to be successful in my military career. The Art Lessons I took at FHS expanded my vision and led me to a sucessful and profitable hobby. I was saddened when my dad, the late T.R. Wilson head of FHS's History Department told me of the school districts consolidation and closing of the high school. I am thankful that Kent and Maribeth have started a work so French High will live on in the Alumni Assocaition.
Larry Doyle and I divorced in 1989, and I married Larry Murphree in 1997. No, I don't know what the attraction is to the name, but at least I don't make any name calling mistakes! In fact it was my husband who discovered this website since he is the internet guru in our household. Beth, you did a great job and I thank you. My daughter Sarah (19) is living in Austin and about to beging massage therapy school, my son Ryan (17) is still at home, is still looking for "the perfect job" while spending as much time as possible with his girlfriend. He will be a senior at SMHS this year. My favorite memories of high school are being on the drill team, the rich friendships that developed, cruising 11th street, and having slumber parties. My favorite teachers were Mrs. Callahan and Mrs. Knox for teaching me s! kills that I continue to use and have helped me survive. I look forward to seeing you guys at the reunion!!
Looking forward to seeing everyone on 7-31 but sure would like to have a golf tournament that day if someone can set it up, count me in. I still have an unedited 1968 (only one yearbook was edited that I remember - do you remember who it was - I do)? Have published poetry (working on book of poems now). Write and arrange music for orchestras and handbells. For the First Baptist/FHS grads out there! I talked to Ron Wells a month ago and he and wife are doing fine in Spartanburg. My eldest son, Aaron, 20, was a foreign exchange student in France for 1 year. He speaks French, Hungarian, Chech, German and Cajun French. He is moving to Austin to pursue a foreign language degree to use as an interpreter. Raegan, my 17 year old son, plays all sports and pitches for S.F. Austin High School. My 15 year old daughter,Tessa, is a dancer. She went to New York to compete in the International Modeling and Talent Association competition and placed first runner up out of 1500 competitors. She had offers to model and an opportunity to do commercials for the Campbell's Kids Agency. Most of her time is devoted to dance and cheerleading for Nederland High. My wife's daughter, Brooke,18, graduated in '98 from S.F.A. High School as an honor grad. and was in the Austinairs drill team. She is working and is planning to start Lamar in the fall. I've been working at Clark Refinery as a Power Plant Operator for 19 years. My wife is a Retail Sales Rep. for R. J. Reynolds. After graduation, I did a 4 year hitch in the Navy. I enjoy hunting, pinching pennies, my new 6 brother-in-laws, and just having a grand old time laughing. I hope this abridged version of my life makes you laugh or smile. I still think of many of you and hope to see or hear from you in the future. It was sad to see so many classmates have since left us. Good luck to all.
Comments: Thanks for this homepage;it is very well done. I transfered to French High for my senior year from Charlton Pollard. French was much closer for me. I lived on Simmons st. just east of Pine st. So a quick dash across Magnolia Park, and I was within distance of French. My family moved to california just after my graduation in '69, and I haven't lived in Texas since. I didn't get to know a lot of French students,as I was only there one year. However, I was in the high school choir, and the French High folk singing group. If anyone was also in those groups, please write me and let me know.
(updated Sept '09 )Just an update, our house in Bevil Oaks burned down to the ground in july. Found a small place in Bandera and love the hill country much more than Beaumont. The 40th reunion was a blast even though I had to leave early.
(updated; Nov. 15 '05)I am back in Beaumont, living in the house I was raised in. Due to a back injury am unable to stand for any amount of time so I had to retire from cooking. Comments: (update: Jan 2010) I am back working for the railroad now as a transportation manager. I still get to run trains as engineer every once in a while (passenger or freight- my choice). My wife and I have 5 grandchildren (4 girls and 1 boy). We like to take the grandkids fishing and skiing on Lake Belton.
This is fantastic. I spent 21 years as a locomotive engineer. I retired, went back to Lamar, got my degree in Medical Technology, and now I am halfway through my MBA in Healthcare Management. Three boys; all grown. The youngest is a Marine and a pilot. Yes, I remember Mr. Coody. I really admired him. He is gone now. So are the Smallwoods. I used to see all of the FHS teachers at Luby's once a month when they met for lunch. Mr. Ruby is still going strong. I almost had him for a student when I taught Micro at Lamar one summer (he decided the lab was too long and took Geology instead). Sorry to read about your stroke- i hope you have recovered. I remember the drag, and going arount the circle so many times that we had to rotate the tires before we went home. My sons have never been to a drive-in- I used to love going to the drive-ins in Beaumont. I am looking forward to grandkids also. My youngest son proposed to his sweetheart at 2,000 feet on a midnight flight in his rented Cessna. He will be the first to have kids. My oldest is a minister in Memphis, and he is too busy with church work to get married. The middle boy (man) will probably play the field until he is in his 40's before he ties the knot. There are a lot of us out there that will probably sign onto this sight once we let them know about it. Our reunion is tentatively set up for Fathers Day in 1999. We are just now getting started trying to relocate everyone. I don't remember your name, and I long ago lost my annuals. Everytime I want to see someone's picture, I go to Penny (Caffee) Hickman's house to look at her annuals. I will send Penny your URL, and I am sure she will sign the guest book. If you think I talk a lot, I just hope your computer has enough memory to hold what she has to say.
Our children have all gone through the Beaumont Independent School District, attending many of the schools that we attended, Roy Guess, Austin and Central which is what remains of French. They did try to keep some of the tradition at the Central High School. The Central crest is made of the four former crests of the schools that were dismantle to make this one big 5A school. (French High, Beauont High, Charlton Pollard High, and Beaumont Chalton Pollard High) I'm working for Beaumont Independent School District as the Science Supervisor for the district. I travel to all of the schools in the district, including the old French building which is not called Smith Middle School which was the old Bowie Middle School. The building still looks great!
